Learning Spanish, Costa Rican Style

August 11th, 2008 · No Comments

Warm light splashes down onto the quiet streets. It heats the backs of the men bringing freshly picked coffee beans into town by oxcart. It reflects off the smiling faces of the children playing among the palm trees near their homes. And it sinks into the open-air garden in the center of our Spanish language school in Heredia, Costa Rica. When learning Spanish in Latin America and Spain there are many destinations to choose from, but for a get-away that will take you back in time and let you really put your feet up and breathe deeply, there may not be any other option quite like Heredia.

Studying Spanish in Heredia, Costa Rica, is so special for two reasons. One is the expert staff at our Spanish language school, where students have a wide range of scholastic options, housing, and cultural immersion activities. As well, our school offers students a free Wi-Fi connection, library, conference rooms for parties and movie-watching, and much more. The other reason that taking Spanish classes in Heredia is so fabulous is because the city immerses visitors in traditional “tico” (Costa Rican) life in a way that is hard to come by in our fast-paced modern world.

Heredia is located in the hills just to the north of the country’s capital, San Jose. It has a population of 30,000 people, and its small size is reflected in the laid-back pace of life. The central square dominates local life; it is a plaza filled with trees, water fountains, bandstand, and many benches. Locals and visitors alike can spend the afternoons chatting, playing checkers, drinking tropical fruit juices, and letting themselves unwind. Nearby, “El Fortín”, the last remaining tower of an eighteenth century Spanish fortress, stands so majestically that it has become the city’s symbol.

Immersion courses in Costa Rica will allow you to dive into top-quality Spanish classes and also develop a full appreciation for the tranquil nature of the local life. With year-round tropical temperatures, palm trees and coffee plantations as far as the eye can see, and perfect beaches just a stone’s throw away, let yourself put your feet up and learn Spanish in the sunny paradise of Heredia, Costa Rica.
