Quito Ecuador has one of the most temperate climates in all of South America making it one of the best places to study Spanish in Latin America. With such a mild climate Quito is a perfect place to escape the dreadfully hot summers or bitter cold winters and everything in between. Quito is situated an incredible 9,350ft (2,850m) above sea level which contributes to its mild climate along with the close proximity to the equator hence the name Ecuador, Spanish for equator. During our Spanish immersion program in Quito students can enjoy this beautiful climate, wonderful culture, and exciting night life among other things.
For a truly thrilling cultural experience while studying Spanish in Ecuador it is highly recommended to attend a football match at the Estadio Olimpico where the national team plays or visit the recent 2008 champions of the Copa Libatadores, la Liga, at Estadio de Liga Deportiva Universitaria also known as La Casa Blanca (the White House). For a more relaxing experience amidst Spanish language courses in Quito and to relax after an exciting football match head off to one of the many parks. Parque Metropolitano Guanguiltagua is the largest urban park in South America covering 1,376 acres (5.7kmsq) or 1/3 larger than New York’s Central Park which is 843 acres (3.4kmsq).
Quito is located in the heart of Ecuador and given the small size of the country students studying Spanish in Ecuador are able to experience its beautiful sites after Spanish classes in Quito or take off on an excursion to the coast or jungle for a long weekend. The equator is located just 22mi (35km) north of Quito referred to as la mitad del mundo (the middle of the world) making a great day trip for students when they finish Spanish language classes in Quito. For weekend and weekday nights alike head off to the Mariscal sector of the city where a multitude of clubs and bars can be found whether you prefer dancing, relaxing and having a drink, or both, students taking Spanish classes in Quito can do it all in this very lively area of the city.
